SHARANYA. N: The Dance Whizz Kid

Fifteen-year-old Sharanya. N started Bharatnatyam at the age of five and gave her first solo performance at an event organized at Cubbon Park, Bangalore. Thereon, Sharanya went on to achieve numerous accolades in the field of Bharatnatyam.

Currently a student of 10th Standard at Kendriya Vidyalaya M G Railway Colony, Bangalore, Sharanya was encouraged the most by both her parents, B. Narayana and Gayathrinarayana, as well as her Guru. All three supported and helped Sharanya nurture and polish her talents. They also ensured that everyone in the family was supportive of Sharanya.

For Sharanya, dance is her passion, and she has participated in over 200 events, garnering several awards and certificates. Her parents take pride and maintain an extensive list of all of their daughter’s achievements and performances.

Sharanya began with performing at school and local events. Her first recorded achievement is the Sri Krishnamrutha National Award, which she received at the All India Classical Dance Festival. She also participated in Super Star Dance of Karnataka and bagged the ‘Best Performer Award’ in Season 1. Sharanya did not let the COVID-19 lockdown hamper her dancing, and enrolled herself in several online dance competitions. One such online competition was the Natya Sanskriti Facebook Live Program, where she bagged the second position.

Sharanya credits all her achievements to her parents and her Guru. She is a student of Rachana Dance Academy and trains under her Guru, Kavya Dilip. She has also completed several courses as a student of the academy. She has fared well in several exams and has qualified in such diverse courses as Madhyama Purna Level in Bharatanatyam, completed with distinction from the Akhil Bharatiya Ghandharva Mahavidyalaya Board, Mumbai, Prarambika Pratham Level in music completed with distinction from Pracheen Kala Kendra Board, Chandigarh, and the Senior Bharatnatyam completed with distinction from Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board, Karnataka.

Sharanya’s driving force is dance, but being multi-talented, she is involved in art and music as well, and has participated in several events related to both. She also learns classical music from her Guru, Ramya Suraj. Her achievements in music include second position in Classical Music at the Krishna Janmashtami event and participation in the Avinayana Dance and Music Festival. She has also participated internationally at the Fahaheel Al-Watanieh Indian Private School in Kuwait.

Sharanya balances her studies and her hobbies remarkably well. Every day, she dedicates one hour for dancing and another hour for classical music, and a significant portion of her time to academics.

Sharanya has the capability and the talent to inspire generations at the young age of 15, and is destined for great things in life.
